Louis (Walther) WALTER

Born in 1862, Louis Walther was one of 6 children born to Carl & Maria Walther of Kassel (Cassel), Hessen, Germany.

Louis joined the Prussian Calvary where he served until about 1881. Information from a letter written in 1952 from his grandson, Donald Wheeler, indicates that Louis was involved in an affair with another officers "love interest". The officer stabbed Louis and Louis in turn assaulted the officer. An uncle of Louis' arranged to get him out of the country and into America in 1881. A letter dated 1882 from Carl Walther to his son Louis also refers to a murder that Louis knew of before leaving the country.

Louis settled in Climax, Kalamazoo, MI where he had 8 children by his 1st wife, Mary RAMBOW. After Mary died in 1911, Louis married 2nd, Mollie RUCKER. Louis died in 1920 and is buried at Prairie Home Cemetery, in Climax MI.
